The Alone Season 2 Cast: Where Are They Now

2026-06-20

Spoiler note: this post covers who won Alone Season 2.

Season 2 put ten contestants back on northern Vancouver Island, near Quatsino and Port Hardy in British Columbia, with the standard $500,000 on the line. It premiered in April 2016 and it remains one of the most consequential casts in the show's history: three of its members later returned for Season 5, and its winner became one of the franchise's most respected champions. Here is the full cast in order of finish and what became of them. The Season 2 page has the season itself in detail.

Contestant Placement Days
David McIntyre 1st 66
Larry Roberts 2nd 64
Jose Martinez Amoedo 3rd 59
Nicole Apelian 4th 57
Justin Vititoe 5th 35
Randy Champagne 6th 21
Mike Lowe 7th 21
Tracy Wilson 8th 8
Mary Kate Green 9th 7
Desmond White 10th 0

The winner: David McIntyre

David McIntyre, a 50-year-old survival instructor from Michigan, won after 66 days, building a raised hemlock-mattress bed shelter and living off a hand-made gill net and fish and crab traps. After the show he moved into international ministry work, serving as a director with Set Free Ministries in Grand Rapids. He passed away unexpectedly on November 22, 2024, and the Season 12 finale closed with a dedication to him. He is remembered as one of the show's steadiest and most methodical winners.

The final four

Larry Roberts, a Minnesotan who lasted 64 days before hunger and a mental breakdown ended his run, came back for the Season 5 redemption season and finished third with another 41 days. Jose Martinez Amoedo, formerly of the Spanish Foreign Legion's special forces, went out on day 59 in dramatic fashion: he capsized on the maiden voyage of a kayak he had spent weeks building and was pulled from the water near hypothermia. Nicole Apelian, a biologist and safari guide who competed while managing multiple sclerosis, lasted 57 days before missing her kids brought her home. She also returned for Season 5, and has since become one of the cast's most visible alumni; as of mid-2026 she is reportedly an author and herbalist whose foraging field guide has sold widely. Justin Vititoe left on day 35, saying he had nothing left to accomplish.

The first half of the field

Randy Champagne tapped on day 21 after finding he did not like being alone, and returned for Season 5, lasting 35 days. Mike Lowe, a wilderness skills instructor, also left on day 21 missing his wife, but not before building an elaborate camp with a running-water sink, a table, and a fireplace. Tracy Wilson, who tapped on day 8 after a bear scare, passed away in 2019, reportedly after a sudden illness. Mary Kate Green was medically evacuated on day 7 after splitting a tendon with her axe. Desmond White left after roughly six hours, still the shortest stay in show history, after finding bear scat near camp and feeling vulnerable without a weapon.

Why Season 2 still matters

This cast set patterns the show still follows. McIntyre's gill net and shelter-first approach became the template most later winners copied, the bear-scare exits pushed the show's risk conversations forward, and the Season 5 redemption format only existed because casts like this one left so much unfinished business. Our winners page puts McIntyre's 66 days in context across every season, and the FAQ answers the common questions about how tap-outs and medical pulls actually work.
