How the season was won (reveals the winner)
Aquaculturalist Krzysztof Wojtkowski, 39, from Ferny Creek, Victoria, won season 2 of Alone Australia after surviving 64 days in Fiordland on New Zealand's South Island. He did not voluntarily tap out - a scheduled medical check on day 64 determined he could no longer safely continue, at which point producers revealed he had outlasted all nine other contestants, including runner-up Suzan Muir (63 days) and third-place Andreas Lundin (57 days). His partner Erin, who had traveled to New Zealand, delivered the winning news to him in person. He survived without eating meat for the entire season, leaning on strong crafting skills and mental resilience.

E1 · At Night I Dream of Sandflies
March 27, 2024 · Days 1-2
Ten contestants are dropped into Fiordland's rugged, rain-soaked wilderness on New Zealand's South Island to begin the season. Most of the opening hours are spent scouting camp sites, fighting swarms of biting sandflies, and struggling to get fires going in constant rain. Wilderness teacher Mike develops severe chest tightness and trouble breathing while trying to light a fire and calls in the rescue boat before the episode ends.
- Sandflies (namu) become a relentless early antagonist for every contestant
- Rick skips stones and swims in six-degree water while demonstrating fire and drying techniques with heated rocks
- Tamika, a national archery champion and vegetarian, wrestles with the show's hunting-heavy format
- Mike suffers chest tightness and breathing difficulty and calls the rescue boat
E2 · Helter Shelter
April 3, 2024 · Days 1-5
The fallout from Mike's medical call opens the episode: he is confirmed to have tapped out after his chest pain, with an ECG later coming back normal. Contestants focus on establishing shelters and early food sources, with mixed hunting and fishing luck, before Leanne becomes the season's second contestant to leave, overwhelmed by missing her husband and children despite being physically capable of continuing.
Out this episode: Mike Hayes (day 2, medical), Leanne Mitchell (day 4)
- Chace catches a protected longfin eel and a brown trout
- Tamika relocates her entire camp, roughly 100kg of gear, to a sunnier site
- Krzysztof reinforces his shelter with salvaged wood plank insulation
- Leanne recites a poem about Aboriginal culture before tapping out
E3 · Crashing in Slow Motion
April 10, 2024 · Days 6-7
With eight contestants remaining, the physical toll of calorie restriction starts to show. Andreas lands the season's first red meat by killing a possum with a shovel, while Jack rigs a homemade lure to bow-fish successfully despite severe sandfly bites covering his legs. Suzan and Jason both show early warning signs, Suzan from digestive trouble after eating fermented berries and Jason from dizziness and low blood sugar, foreshadowing tap-outs to come.
- Andreas kills a common brushtail possum with a shovel for the season's first substantial protein
- Jack bow-fishes successfully using a handmade lure despite heavy sandfly bites
- Suzan suffers digestive issues after eating fermented miro berries off the forest floor
- Jason shows dizziness and low blood sugar symptoms at roughly 120kg bodyweight
E4 · What I'd Do for a Stick of Celery
April 17, 2024 · Days 8-10
Food scarcity forces two more exits. Jason, who has lost 11kg in eight days and is showing metabolic warning signs, taps out on medical advice. Days later Chace withdraws after learning his partner is pregnant, choosing to prioritize his growing family over continuing to struggle with inconsistent hunting success. Other contestants press on with foraging and shelter refinements as six remain.
Out this episode: Jason Allwood (day 8, medical), Chace Leitch (day 10)
- Andreas captures trail-camera footage of a large deer near his shelter
- Tamika harvests mamaku (black tree fern) heart for minimal-calorie food
- Rick catches and eats a fish at his campfire
- Tamika's early return of her menstrual cycle signals caloric stress
E5 · Look at That Stonker!
April 24, 2024 · Days 13-16
Severe storms and heavy rain batter the remaining six contestants. Andreas breaks through with two big fly-caught fish, while Suzan recovers from days of illness to relocate her shelter. Jack, medically cleared but exhausted after 13 days without protein, decides to tap out rather than risk going home too weak to care for his family, and Tamika has an intense moment where she chooses not to kill a nearby deer.
Out this episode: Jack (day 16)
- Andreas lands two large trout using fly-fishing and sight-casting
- Krzysztof catches an eel and builds roughly 20cm of shelter wall insulation
- Rick damages his boots crossing a river and tries drying them with warm rocks
- Tamika declines to kill a deer after what she describes as an out-of-body experience
E6 · Bush Crafternoons
May 1, 2024 · Days 18-22
With five contestants left, bushcraft ingenuity takes center stage. Krzysztof spins harakeke (flax) cordage on a hand-built wheel, and Tamika finally lands a trout after 21 days without protein, coming close to tapping out from prolonged menstrual bleeding and joint pain before deciding to continue. Rick repairs his failing boots with homemade charcoal-and-rubber adhesive while battling early frostbite symptoms from wet feet.
- Krzysztof demonstrates flax-fiber processing and cordage-spinning
- Tamika nearly taps out on Day 21 from prolonged bleeding and iron loss but chooses to stay
- Rick develops early frostbite symptoms while tracking deer in wet boots
- Krzysztof discusses his ADHD and autism diagnoses and how they shape his problem-solving
E7 · Teach a Contestant To Fish…
May 8, 2024 · Days 23-29
No one taps out this episode as the five remaining contestants push through a major storm with winds up to 130 km/h. Tamika builds a real fishing surplus and starts drying fillets for storage, while Andreas ends a four-day dry spell by improvising a wet-fly lure. Krzysztof builds and then loses an outrigger boat he nicknames 'the fish catcher,' and Suzan opens up about surviving breast cancer as she continues to struggle for protein.
- A severe storm with winds up to 130 km/h tests every shelter on Day 29
- Tamika catches four fish and begins drying fillets over her hearth
- Andreas improvises a wet-fly lure to catch a trout at night after four fishless days
- Suzan reveals she is a breast cancer survivor
E8 · Captains and Their Ships
May 15, 2024 · Days 30-40
A brutal storm and its aftermath push the remaining four contestants to their limits. Rick, who has caught only a single trout during his entire time out, decides he has gotten what he needed from the experience and taps out with dignity. Tamika lands a 64cm trout and keeps an indoor fire going, while Andreas builds an elaborate hollowed-log mouse trap that ultimately fails, and Krzysztof focuses on reinforcing his shelter roof against falling debris.
Out this episode: Rick J. Petersen (day 38)
- A severe 24-hour storm batters all shelters during New Zealand winter conditions
- Tamika catches a 64cm trout, her biggest of the season
- Andreas builds an elaborate hollowed-log mouse trap but the mouse escapes
- Suzan uses stones representing her dogs as emotional anchors to stay grounded
E9 · Justice For Trout
May 22, 2024 · Days 40-53
Winter conditions intensify with snow and freezing temperatures as only four contestants remain. Tamika, roughly three weeks without food, declines to shoot nearby Canadian geese, saying killing no longer feels part of who she is, and taps out citing both the ethical toll and the danger of fishing from an unstable ledge. Krzysztof endures severe sleep deprivation with headaches and vertigo but keeps his humor intact, while Andreas and Suzan continue searching for reliable food sources heading into the finale.
Out this episode: Tamika Simpson (day 53)
- Tamika loses a fish after a difficult 15-day dry spell just before tapping out
- Krzysztof jokes about 'ordering a pizza' despite headaches, vertigo, and vomiting from sleep deprivation
- Andreas makes a risky wade into cold water chasing a dead spawning trout before abandoning the attempt
- Suzan experiments with harvesting wiwi (Maori sedge grass) seeds for food
E10 · Sleep is for the Nourished
May 29, 2024 · Days 54-64
The season finale follows the last three contestants, Andreas, Krzysztof, and Suzan, through their most extreme days yet. Andreas, roughly 28 days without a fish and having lost about 30% of his starting body weight, decides the physical and mental toll is no longer worth it and taps out by satellite phone. Suzan, despite appearing composed, becomes emotionally overwhelmed after a fire ritual and taps out before being hospitalized on an IV drip. Krzysztof, vomiting and surviving on minimal sleep, is pulled by medical staff for safety during a routine check rather than tapping out voluntarily, making him the winner as the last person remaining after 64 days.
Out this episode: Andreas Lundin (day 57, medical), Suzan Muir (day 63, medical)
- Andreas taps out on Day 57 after a 28-day fishless streak and severe weight loss
- Suzan performs a fire ritual before deciding to tap out on Day 63 and is later put on an IV drip
- Krzysztof is medically pulled on Day 64 rather than tapping out, becoming the winner by default
- Krzysztof's partner Erin surprises him during recovery with the news of his win
Facts worth knowing
- Season 2 was filmed in Fiordland on New Zealand's South Island (Te Waipounamu), despite airing under the 'Alone Australia' name, giving the cast access to deer, trout, and eel populations not found in the show's Australian season 1 location.
- Krzysztof Wojtkowski, a 39-year-old aquaculturalist from Ferny Creek, Victoria, won the season and the $250,000 prize after 64 days, the longest duration of any Alone Australia contestant at the time.
- Krzysztof was not officially declared a winner by choice: he was medically pulled for safety during a routine day-64 check (vomiting, severe sleep deprivation) and won by being the last contestant remaining rather than by choosing to stay in.
- Runner-up Suzan Muir lasted 63 days and was later hospitalized on an IV drip after tapping out, with heart-related issues cited as a contributing factor.
- Contestant Leanne Mitchell is the wife of Rob Kelly, a contestant from Alone Australia Season 1.
- The season aired weekly on SBS from 27 March to 29 May 2024, with the finale drawing the season's highest audience at 345,000 viewers, and a Hamish Blake-hosted reunion special airing the same night.
- The series as a whole drew over 4 million viewers across the season, with five episodes surpassing 1 million viewers, making it one of the most-watched shows on Australian broadcast video on demand (BVOD) at the time.
- Nine of the ten contestants tapped out before the finale, citing a mix of medical evacuations (chest pain, severe weight loss), homesickness, and ethical objections to killing game (Tamika Simpson).
Viewer's notes
- The three-way finale (Episode 10, 'Sleep is for the Nourished') is the season's most intense watch, covering Andreas's, Suzan's, and Krzysztof's near-simultaneous physical collapse in the final days.
- Episode 6 ('Bush Crafternoons') is the best episode for bushcraft technique, featuring Krzysztof's flax cordage-spinning and multiple footwear and shelter repairs.
- Watch Episode 9 ('Justice For Trout') for one of the show's more thoughtful ethical moments, as Tamika Simpson declines to kill available game and taps out on principle rather than pure starvation.
- Because Season 2 was actually filmed in New Zealand rather than Australia, viewers expecting classic outback terrain will instead see fiord, temperate rainforest, and cold-water coastal environments closer in feel to some North American or European Alone seasons.
- Compared to Season 1, Season 2 runs noticeably longer at the top (64 days vs. a shorter Season 1 run), so viewers interested in extreme long-duration starvation arcs should prioritize this season.
