Alone Australia Season 1 Episode Guide: Every Episode, Recapped

2026-06-30

Spoiler note: this covers the full season, including who won and every tap-out along the way.

Season 1 ran 12 episodes on SBS, from the March 2023 double-episode premiere through the May 2025 reunion special (numbering aside, it's the show's inaugural cast, filmed around a remote lake in South West Tasmania). Ten contestants started it; three were gone inside the first two episodes. Here's what each hour actually covered.

# Episode Air Date What happens
1 "The Drop" 2023-03-29 Ten contestants are dropped at separate sites around a Tasmanian lake and start scouting shelter spots and gathering water and bait on day one.
2 "Fired Up" 2023-03-29 Overnight rain soaks camps and three contestants are gone by day two: Rob Kelly and Beck Henog tap out, and Jimmy Lassaline is pulled by the medical team after testing positive for COVID-19.
3 "Unforced Error" 2023-04-05 Peter Athanassiou taps out on day 3 over a knee issue and scarce food, while Kate Grarock lands her first eel and Chris Bakon catches his first fish.
4 "Head Games" 2023-04-12 No tap-outs. Gina Chick marks the anniversary of her son's death, and camps shift to shelter thatching and testing wild plants for safety.
5 "Spent" 2023-04-19 Duane Byrnes taps out at dawn on day 10 after days of failed fire attempts. Chris Bakon nearly quits from hunger, then catches a trout mid-resignation speech and stays.
6 "Sink or Swim" 2023-04-26 No tap-outs. Mike Atkinson test-launches his homemade kayak, watches it sink, then repairs and relaunches it; Chris Bakon has his first panic attack in six months.
7 "Trapped" 2023-05-03 Chris Bakon taps out on day 12 on his own terms, citing his PTSD history. Kate Grarock lands her first eel in twelve days.
8 "Severed" 2023-05-10 Kate Grarock taps out on day 22 to reunite with her family. Mike Atkinson finally lands an eel, and Gina Chick starts catching fish daily.
9 "Making Moves" 2023-05-17 No tap-outs. Mike Atkinson dives into 9°C water hunting for lost fishing hooks and later breaks down from hunger before landing a large trout.
10 "The Dark of Night" 2023-05-24 Michael Wallace taps out for third place after weeks without reliable protein. Gina Chick catches a wallaby.
11 "The Storm" 2023-05-24 A major storm hits both remaining camps. Mike Atkinson is medically evacuated on day 64 for dangerously low blood pressure, and Gina Chick is confirmed the winner on day 67.
12 "The Reunion" 2023-05-25 A non-competition special: host Amanda Keller brings all ten original contestants back together to revisit their runs.

The pattern this season sets

Four of the ten contestants are gone within the first three episodes, mostly over fire and shelter failures rather than starvation, and that early attrition rate turns out to be typical of the format rather than a fluke of this particular cast. The back half is a different show entirely: episodes 6 through 9 are the stretch where Mike Atkinson, Michael Wallace, and Gina Chick each work out a fishing or foraging system that actually holds, and the season narrows to a final two who spend roughly a month alone before episode 11 resolves it.

Watching it as a viewer, not a contestant tracker

If you're picking which hours to prioritize on a rewatch, episode 11 is the one to not skip: it's the storm, the medical evacuation, and the win inside a single episode. Episode 5 is worth it for Chris Bakon's mid-resignation catch alone, and the run from episode 6 to 9 is the best stretch for watching four different food strategies get solved in real time.
