Who finished second and third?
| Place | Contestant | Days in the wilderness |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Žiga Ogorelec | 90 |
| 2 | Aaron Barnard | 87 |
| 3 | Nero Buys | 85 |
Nero decided to leave on Day 85. Aaron tapped out on Day 87 after mental and physical exhaustion. Žiga stayed until Day 90, when he learned he had won. The finale coverage distinguishes the runner-up’s departure from the winner’s later reveal.
How did Žiga win?
His successful moose hunt, shown in Episode 5, “Thin Margins”, created a major food reserve. Keeping that food usable and maintaining camp through the Arctic winter still took work. His kit also stood out because it contained no ferro rod; he made friction fires during the competition.
Žiga’s background includes biology research and years of wilderness experience. HISTORY’s cast biography describes the bushcraft school he founded with his brother Miha in Slovenia. These were practiced skills before the competition began.
What were his ten items?
His recorded kit was a sleeping bag, cooking pot, bow and arrows, fishing kit, saw, paracord, snare wire, knife, gill net and shovel. See his contestant profile for the complete gear record and sources. A successful expert’s decision to omit a fire starter is not a general packing recommendation.
Was this the longest Alone win?
Žiga’s 90 days exceeded Zachary Fowler’s 87-day Season 3 win. Roland Welker’s 100 days in Season 7 remain longer, under that season’s fixed 100-day challenge. The format difference matters when comparing the full winners list.
